BELGRADE, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The AIBA Men's World Boxing Championships opened with a grand ceremony and a concert at the Belgrade Arena in Serbia on Sunday in the presence of world-famous boxers and thousands of fans.
Over 6,500 boxers from over 100 countries and regions met the crowds at the competition venue in the Serbian capital city, opening the tournament that will run until November 6.
Boxing Association of Serbia president Nenad Borovcanin, first man of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) Umar Kremlev, and Serbian sports minister Vanja Udovicic attended the ceremony, while among the special guests was former champion Roy Jones Junior.
Participants will compete in 13 weight categories - from 48kg to over 92kg.
The AIBA Men's World Boxing Championships was inaugurated in 1974 in Havana, Cuba by the AIBA.
