Mitchell Marsh has become the first player to be ruled out of IPL 2020 due to injury. Marsh hurt his ankle during the Sunrisers Hyderabad's first match of the tournament, on September 21 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. West Indies allrounder Jason Holder will be Marsh's replacement. Add that in the intro para as last line.
This is the second time in the last five years that Marsh has had to abort the tournament due to injury - in 2017, a shoulder injury cost him the entire IPL season for the Rising Pune Supergiants.
Marsh was picked by the Sunrisers for his base price of INR 2 cr (approx. US$ 281,000) last December. On fresh pitches, on conditions favouring fast bowlers in the first phase of this IPL, Marsh would have been a first-choice player for the Sunrisers with his allround skills. The Sunrisers, who won the title in 2016, have struggled since they are mainly dependent on their overseas top order comprising captain David Warner, Johnny Bairstow and Kane Williamson.
