CEBU CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) has added two more free WiFi zones in Cebu as it recently launched its "Free Wifi for All" at the Ramos Public Market and at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City on Oct. 14, 2019.
The project will supply 40 mbps strength of internet connection for free in each zone.
DICT Assistant Secretary Felino Castro V assured the public that it will be free of charge for anyone who wishes to use it.
"Because we would like to engage the people to use our services," he added.
In addition, there are 148 active sites in Cebu out of the 556 target sites.
Some of the operating sites are DICT Cebu Field Office, Cebu Provincial Capitol, Cebu Pier Terminal, Plaza Independencia, Plaza Sugbo, and other national agency offices in Cebu.
Castro said the free internet in the VSMMC is intended for the hospital's patients as well as their families.
"So while they are being taken cared of by the hospital staff, they continuously communicate with their families who are in the provinces or the country," Castro explained.
DICT also launched an innovation center and digital hub at the Ramos Public Market where they provided ten computer units and free internet in collaboration with the Cebu City government that gave them the space.
People there can now use it as a learning facility where they can learn online courses, browse for employment opportunities, and/or create and meet up with other developers.
It can also be a workplace also for those who are into online entrepreneurship. (fan/pia7)
