SP Naga commends SM City Naga for its sense of patriotism

NAGA CITY (PIA) - The Sangguniang Panlunsod of Naga acknowledged and gave its commendation to SM City Naga for extending exceptional effort in maintaining its regular flag-raising and flag retreat rituals and for honoring the sacrifices of our forefathers during the annual commemoration of the country's Independence Day.

The recognition served as one of the highlights of the city's celebration of the 121st Philippine Independence Day on June 12, Wednesday which was held at the SM City Naga Activity Center.

Authored by City Councilor Joselito S.A. del Rosario, SP Resolution No.2019-187 stated that SM City Naga's manifestation of patriotism by honoring the flag rituals and the commemoration of Independence Day for the past 10 years since the mall's establishment, "are important expressions and means towards the cultivation and development of patriotism, love of motherhood and sense of civic mindedness among our citizenry."

In the said SP resolution, Del Rosario stressed that the "initiative of SM City Naga exemplifies their holistic approach to service, which goes beyond their commercial reason for existence." It furthered that "such special effort to promote patriotism should be upheld as exemplary, and a model for other establishments to emulate."

SM City has institutionalized the said tradition by consistently implementing the flag- raising and flag retreat rituals for the past 10 years.

This year, SM City Naga under the headship of Mall Manager Jeannette de Vera, once again commenced this year's celebration of Independence Day thru a flag raising ceremony on June 12, simultaneous in all SM supermalls nationwide.

The SM Team was joined by the city government of Naga thru Mayor John G. Bongat, Officers and troopers of the 9th Infantry Division headed by 9thID Commander Major General Fernando Trinidad , Philippine Coast Guard, Boy Scout of the Philippines, members of the media and mall tenants in traditional Filipino attire.

After the flag ceremony, SM City Naga Security force led the Freedom Parade around the thoroughfares of the mall, together with the Philippine Army. Security guards who have exhibited exceptional deeds were also recognized in a simple awarding ceremony.
