New crop for Australian agriculture
Barbados News.Net Wednesday 9th July, 2008
In Australia, a new pasture crop has been developed to survive and thrive in drought conditions.
The South Australian Research and Development Institute has released a plant to farmers which have roots that probe deep into the soil in their search for moisture.
Farmers will be able to plant either of two new seed varieties, Moonbi and Wilpena, which also have high protein levels.
The crop needs little or no irrigation to produce good-quality fodder for animals.
